Emmett Velten, PhD, is a clinical psychologist with over forty years of professional experience. Using Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), the cognitive behavior therapy originally developed by Dr. Albert Ellis, he works with people of all ages to help them solve a number of situational and emotional problems in their everyday lives. These issues frequently include addictions, depression, social fears, phobias, difficulties in dating and mating, procrastination, life transition concerns, and other common problems. His private practice office is in Phoenix, Arizona.

About Emmett Velten, PhD

Dr. Velten has written and co-authored a number of books, publications, and articles on using REBT in therapy and for self-help. When AA Doesn't Work for You: Rational Steps to Quitting Alcohol and Optimal Aging: Get Over Getting Older, were co-authored with Dr. Albert Ellis. REBT for People with  Co-occurring Problems: Albert Ellis in the Wilds of Arizona was co-authored with Patricia E. Penn, PhD, and soon to be out in 2011, he wrote Albert Ellis: American Revolutionary. He also co-authored Rx for Learning Disability with Dr. Carlene Samson.

Books & Publications by Dr. Velten

Currently, Dr. Velten is doing a series of lectures and mini-workshops in Phoenix for both professionals and the general public on "How to Become Your Own Therapist" using the methods of REBT and CBT.

Topics of the lectures include "How to Get Your Inner Child of the Past to Grow Up and Move Out", "How to be UNhappy at Work", "How Not to be Miserable", and "22 Ways to Tackle Your Anxieties and Phobias, and Stop Making Yourself a Nervous Wreck", along with others being produced for the future.

How to Stop Being So Lazy!


Need to get whatever you need to do out of the way? You could make the time, but you don’t. You know what to do, so that’s not the issue. You’d definitely feel way better if you got off your butt — but, but, but . . . somehow you can’t quite get around to it. You don’t feel up for it, not quite ready—not today, at least. Tomorrow (and tomorrow and tomorrow) seems better.
